Week 47, 2024: Trax

G'day folks.

Progress has been a tad slow this week, however I've been working through the Truchet/Trax tile ideas from last week!

Below is an output, generated from an algorithm written in Processing.

Another output below, but this time produced using JavaScript + Canvas API. I know I said it was a pain in the ass last time, but it's been a good exercise in terms of figuring it out. Yay.

Next, I want to animate the tiles and possibly explore a variant using the wave function collapse technique, inspired by an interaction I had on Bluesky.

In terms of recreation, I finished reading The Silmarillion, Beren and Lúthien, and The Hobbit, by J. R. R. Tolkien. It is always fun reading Tolkien's works, and The Hobbit just might be one of my comfort reads. This year is proving to be great in terms of my readings.

I picked up Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir a couple of days ago and am presently more than halfway through it. I can't stand his writing style — more specifically with how Weir writes characters, dialogues between characters, and the inner voice the main character has... and it reminds me of The Martian at a few points. A little too juvenile for my liking, it seems.

I've been watching Star Trek: The Next Generation on Netflix — mainly a couple of episodes here and there.

Kendrick Lamar dropped his new record (surprise!), GNX, last Friday, and I'm digging the sound. What a fantastic year for music!

Until next time.
