Week 46, 2024: Truchet tiles

G'day folks.

This week, I've been experimenting more with the 'Bloem' piece from last week. I've mainly been working with adding a rotation to the flower (which took up a LOT of my time). A friend provided some input, ideas, and suggestions, and he also pointed out that the design looks rangoli-ish which I hadn’t considered, but he's pretty spot-on.

Along with adding a rotation, I also experimented with a hue shift to the petals, again thanks to an idea from the same friend.

In addition to that, I spent some time figuring out quarter-circle Truchet tiles (Wikipedia). This time, I focused on creating a Truchet effect using quarter-circles instead of lines from before.

Made used Processing—because working with arcs in JavaScript is a major pain in the ass (for me). That said, I might still attempt it in JS for the learning experience.

I have some more plans for using the truchet tile outputs from above. I am currently working through an idea I have, and would like to see how it ends up. Figuring out tile orientation and the maths behind it presently.

In terms of rest and relaxation, I finished reading Doctor Sleep, and started reading Beren and LĂșthien along with The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien. I remember reading The Lord of the Rings around this same time last year—a curious pattern likely of interest to no one but myself.

I haven't kept up with my Arrested Development rewatch—it's been pretty on-and-off, but I think I last left off near the end of Season 2.

Until next time!
