Week 45, 2024: Bloem
G'day folks.
("Bloem" = Dutch for "bloom")
I've spent heaps of time working on another artwork this week.
I wanted to create a simple, organic pattern inspired by flowers. Using javascript and canvas api, I built a grid of 'petals' radiating from the center, scaling and adjusting their transparency based on distance from the center. I then added a riso color palette and linearly interpolated the color transition. Balancing opacity, scale, and color transitions took me a lot of iterations — but I’m happy with how it captures the organic, flowery idea I had!
As always, here’s the link to my posts on instagram and reddit—for viewing the animation in its full glory (can't post the video here because of its sheer size), and for a bit of backlinking, of course.
I’ve also been thinking of starting a Tumblr to log all my work-in-progress pieces that didn’t make the final cut, in addition to finished works. However, I already have a work archive channel on my Are.na. Whew, that’s a lot of links, isn’t it?
In terms of fun stuff, I've been rewatching one of my all-time favourite comedy shows, Arrested Development. I can still quote characters verbatim to this day, and it NEVER gets old.
I finished reading both The Fall of Hyperion AND The Shining this past week, and I've begun reading Doctor Sleep to close out The Shining series. All books listed here highly recommended to anyone reading this.
This week's song is Alarm Call, by Björk (beepbeep-beepbeep-beep...).
Until next time.
